Any of you who read my blog last week will know that metallics are a key trend this season and if in doubt at all you only have to pop into any high street clothes shop to see just how big the trend is. And with the Christmas party season just around the corner it seems every fashion retailer seems to have embraced the trend and has something to offer. This might seem great for those of us who love a bit of glitz and glamour but for those who are cringing at the thought of looking like a tin man or replicating CP30’s signature look then never fear because all that glitters is not gold. I’m going to share some of my top picks from the high street and how to incorporate this trend into your wardrobe with some really wearable pieces.
My first two picks are from one of my favourite stores which is H&M. H&M have a huge array of metallics on offer so I’d make it your first stop on if you are planning to hit the shops this weekend. I love these two tops as both can be worn on their own for a night out or can be layered over a shirt for a more understated look (as modelled by moi). By wearing them over a shirt you can wear with jeans and boots for a smart daytime or evening look or team with cigarette trousers and loafers and you’re ready for the office.
This skirt from Karen Millen would be a great addition to your wardrobe as it can be worn as a great party piece but would look equally great with a plain black roll neck, tights and boots for a more casual, pared down look.
Alternatively go for metallic trousers like these ones from Miss Selfridge. Again they are really easy to dress up with a camisole top and heels or dress down with a fine knit jumper and plain black loafers like these ones from Topshop.
If you love metallics and want to go bold then why not opt for a coat? The obvious choice would be a cosy puffa and there are plenty to choose from. But if puffas don’t float your boat then never fear, there are other options out there.
Finally, if you just want to dip your toe into this trend (quite literally) then go for a statement shoe. I absolutely love a statement shoe as it can really change the look of an outfit and can take it from plain to party in an instant. Whether you love to add a few inches (we’re talking heels here) or you are a comfy flats kind of girl a metallic shoe will bring your outfit bang up to date.
Hopefully I have given you a few ideas on how you can inject some metal tones into your wardrobe without breaking too far out of your comfort zone. This is a really fun trend and great for this time of year as we start to think of the festivities coming up so I would recommend you give it a try, experiment and have some fun with it.
