I have to say I am absolutely loving all the gorgeous dresses out there on the highstreet at the moment and with such a range of prints from florals to stripes to gingham there is so much to choose from. It has really encouraged me to try and reconnect with my inner feminine side. None more so than the beautiful range of dresses from Warehouse that scream 1950s starlet.
I love the cut of these dresses as they flatter you in the right places and if, like me, you aren’t particularly curvy then this style of dress can create some curves for you with the nipped in high waist. Add some really simple accessories and flat sandals for a more casual look or dress up with some heeled sandals or wedges and some chunkier jewellery for a more glamourous look but either way don’t forget those over-sized Audrey Hepburn sunglasses! Warehouse have a huge range of dresses this season and have really great range of prints and styles as well as some great denim dresses too if you prefer something a bit more casual. They are definitely favouring mid length this summer which will not appeal to everyone, especially those of us more vertically challenged than others, but they are worth trying on and should mid length be out of fashion next year then they are fairly easy to take up without altering the look and style of the dress too much. Also, at the time of writing this, they are offering 25% off all dresses online.
If you aren’t quite ready to start flashing those milky whites yet and want to cover your legs completely but still want a more classic film star feel then the Bardot style maxi dress is definitely worth considering and River Island is the place to go. They did have an amazing red floral print one but since Holly Willoughby was seen wearing it on This Morning a few weeks ago it appears to have sold out on their website but you may be icky enough to find one in-store. However, they have another couple of prints available as well as plain colours if you want something a little more muted.
If an off the shoulder number is not quite your bag then New Look have these really pretty, feminine maxi dresses that look ideal for holiday with their spaghetti straps and delicate floral fabric.
And finally for the brave…….the leg bearers among us! Sticking with the theme then it has to be a tea dress and there are plenty of these around. Asos have a whole host of these online at the moment from both their own range and a from a number of other brands, as does Very. However, my favourite that I’ve seen has to be this one from Topshop. I love the print and the pleating around the waist on this dress and it is a really good length.
I often feel like I need a specific occasion to wear a dress but with so many beautiful dresses on the highstreet at the moment it’s making me want to ditch the jeans, embrace my inner feminine side and channel a bit of Audrey and Marylin, even if it is only for the grocery shopping or the school run!
