So it’s officially the start of spring this week and, despite the grim weather, I am thinking of the warmer days to come and in particular spring footwear. I don’t know about you but by this time of year I cant wait to kick off my winter boots and start wearing shoes that don’t require a 10 minute rummage through the ironing pile to find a pair of matching socks.
I’m dreaming of just slipping my bare feet into a pair of shoes and (dare I say it) showing a glimpse of bare flesh, even if it is only my ankles. But let’s not run before we can walk. It’s too early to be fishing out the flipflops but I have found a great interim treat for the feet………plimsoles! Ok so it’s not groundbreaking stuff as they were on trend last spring/summer but it looks like they are here to stay for at least another season and, from what I’ve seen, shoe retailers have really upped their game this year.
It took me a while to warm up to them last year but once I had invested in a couple of pairs from Kurt Geiger I was won over. I can’t say I was surprised that they were comfortable as they certainly look comfortable, however, I was surprised by how much I liked the look of them on and how versatile they are. And of course no socks needed so slip them straight on and you’re school-run ready.
My only criticism of plimsoles would be that they can sometimes be a bit clumpy and they aren’t particularly girly or pretty. Well that is until now! I was delighted to stumble across a gorgeous pair of pointy plimsoles in Ted Baker’s latest footwear range. Cute AND comfy! Then on further perusal of the high street I came across some oh so pretty pink suede ones in Zara. They are also available in navy but I just love the dusty pink colour which seems to be a key colour this season and goes perfectly with light grey.
Zara and Ted Baker aren’t the only stores that are rocking their plimsoles, for anyone wishing to indulge then Russell & Bromley have some beautiful plimsoles in-store at the moment or for something easier on the purse then check out the range in New Look who have lots of plimsoles in shimmery and floral fabrics.
So hoorah, it’s nearly time to peel off those socks, air those soles and slip on some pretty plimsoles while we wait for summer to arrive.
